A University Library in London has a great temporary part-time job (33 hours per week)  opportunity for a User Services  Assistant.  This is an onsite role that supports both the Library and IT services.
The User Services Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service by providing frontline support and advice for both IT and Library services. This position involves assisting users through various channels, including telephone calls, online chats, queries submitted through the online ticketing system, and in-person interactions at our service desk on campus. The postholder works in a team and participates in the rota to cover the online and in person enquiry service.

The working pattern will be:
Monday noon-8pm,  Wednesday noon-8pm , Thursday 10am-6pm,  Friday noon-8pm and  
Sunday 10-3 - 5 .

                                                                
Key Job Responsibilities will also include:

  • Assisting users with literature searches using online and printed resources,

  • Responding to queries received in-person, via email and phone

  • Assisting with the production of promotional and instructional guides

  • Assisting users in resolving IT queries – logging on to Wi-Fi, changing passwords and printing

  • Guiding users in using self-service applications for applying, enrolling, or choosing modules and submitting coursework through Moodle

  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of library processes, IT procedures and self-service applications.  

  • Contributing to the creation and maintenance of user guides, FAQs, and other communication materials.

  • Keeping the service desk and library space in good order – tidying and shelving. Ensuring equipment is in working order and adhering to best health and safety practices and security guidelines.


Experience and Person Specification

Applicants should be educated to bachelor’s degree level and possess:

  • A good level of general IT literacy and be comfortable learning, and working with, new systems and platforms.

  • Flexible approach to the role and ability to work evenings

  • Experience of front-line library services, working with a wide range of service users

  • Empathetic approach to students, and ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with key stakeholders in the library

  • Ability to plan, manage workloads, organise, and work with minimal supervision Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.

A Library and Information Studies qualification would be desirable, as would experience of working with students, educational technology and Library Management Systems.
