About the company

We are presently recruiting for a Senior Library Assistant for our Education client in East London. This position will

initially be a 4-month contract but has no guarantees of extension.

What you’ll be doing

KEY TASKS

  • To operate the lending systems using the online library management system (Oliver) with fingerprint recognition and RFID security
  • To maintain the library as a tidy, safe, attractive and welcoming environment, shelving stock on a daily basis
  • To ensure that resources are shelved correctly
  • To ensure that student computer workstations are in good working order and report any faults to RM support
  • To maintain the stock in good condition, carrying out repairs when viable and referring others to the librarian for withdrawal
  • To process new stock to include labelling, stamping and covering items
  • To supervise library users, enforce the school and library code of conduct and deal with misbehaviour or overcrowding when necessary
  • To assist with creating displays in the library
  • To create, manage and carry out routines for sending out overdue reminders, writing letters home and calling upon the Year teams for support with persistent non-returns
  • To create, manage and maintain a system to monitor the magazine and newspaper collections, recording items received, chasing any that do not arrive and alerting the librarian when subscriptions require renewal.
  • To monitor and maintain the stationery supplies, preparing requisitions to ensure adequate stocks are available
  • To support author visits and other library events such as World Book Day, contributing ideas, helping to look after guests, supervise students and other tasks necessary to ensure the smooth running and maximum impact of events
  • To be the lead contact for “Duty Calls” including sending reminders to duty staff, obtaining help when it is requested and archiving daily records of duty call activities
  • To deputise for the librarian in her absence

Why you’ll be hired

  • Previous experience or working within an educational environment
  • Previous experience of working in a library
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues at all levels
  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with one or more electronic library resources
  • Readiness to acquire new skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritise own work and work with others
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team and able to work towards common goals
  • Methodical and accurate approach to work
